Pace Cruise to Win Over Queens in Non-Conference Game

QUEENS, N.Y.- The Setters had four players finish in double-figures in points as Pace cruised to a 66-46 win over the Knights of Queens College in non-conference action. Pace improves to 5-4 overall, while the Knights fall to 3-4 on the season.

Queens got on the board with an early three-pointer but the Setters countered with 12 straight points for a 12-3 lead midway through the half. The Knights would chip away and pull to within four points at 21-17 with just over two minute to go in the half. Pace answered with a Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) (Union, NJ/Union) lay-up and a triple by Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's) at the buzzer as the Setters took a 26-17 lead at the break.

The Setters would extend their halftime advantage in the second half as Justin Alston (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) hit a trifecta, while Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) recorded a steal and lay-up to push the Pace lead to 37-24. The Knights would get as close as 10 points at 44-34 but a quick 11-3 run by the Setters capped off by a Kevin Clark (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore/St. Johns University) (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore/St. John's Univ.) gave the Setters a commanding 55-37 lead with just under five minutes to play. Pace would head to the free throw line over the final four-plus minutes as Mills (6-for-6) and Primus-Devonish (4-for-4) were clutch down the stretch to give the Setters a key non-conference victory.

For Pace, Primus-Devonish finished with 16 points three steals and seven assists, while Mills also totaled 16 points and five rebounds for the Setters  Merceus finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two blocks, while Keon Williams (Hackensack, N J/Hackensack/Iona College) totaled 11 points and four boards.

The Setters are back in action on Saturday, December 17 when Pace will host Assumption College in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at 3:30 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
