ALBANY, N.Y.- Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) finished with 23 points but the Setters would drop their first game of the season 75-64 to the Golden Knights of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 5-1 and 4-1 in the NE-10, while the Golden Knights improve to 6-1 and 4-1 in conference play.
The Golden Knights jumped out to an early 12-4 lead but the Setters answered with nine straight points to take a 13-12 lead. Saint Rose would retake the lead and pull ahead 26-19, eventually taking a 41-26 lead into halftime.
Saint Rose continued their advantage into the second but the Setters would close to gap to pull to within seven at 51-44 with 12:15 left in the game. The Golden Knights pushed the lead back to 13 at 60-46. Pace would again battle back as Shields' lay-up at the 3:20 mark pulled the Setters to within nine at 68-59. The Golden Knights answered as they pushed their lead back to double figures and held off a late Setter flurry.
For Pace, Shields led all scorers with 23 points, while grabbing eight rebounds. Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) added 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Setters are back in action on Tuesday, December 6 when Pace will host Adelphi University in a Northeast-10 Conference game at 5:30 at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
