NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Setters held off a late rally by Southern Connecticut to remain unbeaten on the season as they defeated the Owls 46-42 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace improves to 5-0 and 4-0 in the NE-10, while the Owls fall to 2-3 and 2-2 in conference play.
The Setters jumped out to an early lead on the Owls as they built a 16-6 lead late into the half. Pace would take a 20-12 lead into the break as Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) totaled seven points, while Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central). The Owls were limited to 18.8 % for the half.
Pace would pull ahead in the second half as they would take a 31-19 lead as Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) converted a three-point play with 13:40 left in the game. The Owls rallied as they closed the gap to pull within two points at 44-42 with 50 seconds remaining in the game. Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) hit a pair of free throws with 24 seconds on the clock to put the game out of reach. The Owls has a pair three-pointers rim out as time expired as the Setters posted a four-point victory.
For Pace, Javadifar finished with 13 points, while Shields totaled 12 points and four rebounds. Johnson grabbed a team-best seven boards.
The Setters are back in action on Saturday, December 3 when Pace will travel to Albany, NY for a Northeast-10 Conference game against the College of Saint Rose at 1:30 pm.
