PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Setters scored the final 10 points over the final five minutes of play as Pace defeated the Charges of New Haven 55-45 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the NE-10, while the Chargers fall to 2-2 and 1-2 in conference play.
Pace came out strong to start the game as they built an 18-9 lead as Kevin Clark (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore/St. Johns University) (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore/St. John's) hit three free throws midway through the opening half. The Chargers answered with a 12-0 run to jump in the lead at 21-18 with five and a half minutes to play. The Setters rallied to retake the lead as Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) hit a trifecta to put Pace back in front at 26-24. New Haven scored the final three points on a free throw and Eric Anderson who hit a turn-around buzzer beater to give the Chargers a 27-26 lead at the break.
The second half went back and forth as the half featured three ties and 11 lead changes. At the 5:04 mark, New Haven's Cyrus James hit 1-of-2 from the line to tie game at 45. The Setters would lock down on defense and responded by scoring the final 10 points of the game. Mills put the Setters up for good with a lay-up at the 4:24 mark, while Delroy Daley (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) and Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) both went 2-for-2 at the free throw line in the final 1:25 seal the win for the Setters.
Mills led the Setters with 18 points along with five rebounds. Daley finished with a team-high nine rebounds, while Primus-Devonish totaled nine points.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, November 30 when Pace travels to New Haven, CT for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Southern Connecticut at 7:30 pm.
