Setters Rally in Second Half Against American International to Remain Unbeaten

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Setters rallied from a first half deficit to remain unbeaten as Pace defeated the Yellow Jackets of American International College 50-46 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace improves to 3-0 and 2-0 in the NE-10, while Yellow Jackets fall to 1-5 and 0-2 in conference play.

American International jumped out to an early first half lead as they took a 14-4 lead midway through the half. Pace would rally back but still trailed 22-14 at the break.

The Setters would battle back in the second but trailed by eight at 40-32 with just over seven minutes to play. Pace would rally with a 12-4 run as Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) score four points, while Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 42.

The Yellow Jackets jumped back in the lead by two but Shields would convert a lay-up to pull the Setters even at 44 with 1:58 left in the game. Following a turnover by American International, Shields gave the Setters their first lead of the game with under a minute remaining in the game. Pace would play defense down the stretch and convert at the line as Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) sealed the game with a pair of free throws with six seconds left to put Pace up by four.

For Pace, Shields posted her third double-double of the young season as she finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Javadifar finished with seven points, eight boards and three assists.

The Setters are back in action on Sunday, November 27 when Pace will host Northeast-10 Conference foe University of New Haven at 1:30 pm.
