Setters Down Le Moyne in NE-10 Opener 62-46
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Brittany Shields (Haldane, NY/Cold Spring) posted her second straight double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Setters opened their Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a 62-46 win over the Le Moyne Dolphins. The Setters improve to 2-0 and 1-0 in the NE-10, while the Dolphins fall to 1-1 and 0-1 in conference play.
The Setters came out strong as some hot shooting gave Pace a 14-4 lead in the first five minutes of play. The Dolphins rallied to tie the score at 18 at the seven minute mark as the teams would trade points on the following two possessions. Pace would jump back in the lead and score the final five points of the half as the Setters took a 27-22 lead into the break.
Pace extended their lead early in the second half as they took a 45-32 lead seven and an half minutes into the half. The Dolphins would slice the lead to nine points with seven minute to play but the Setters would put the game out of reach with an 8-1 blitz to pull ahead 56-40 with 4:23 left in the game.
Pace was led by Shields' second double-double, while Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) netted 12 points and three rebounds. Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) tallied 11 points and five rebounds, while freshman Emily Armstrong (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Ludowe) came off the bench to hit a pair of triples and finished with nine points and three rebounds.
The Setters are back in action on Tuesday, November 22 when Pace will travel to Springfield, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against the Yellow Jackets of American International College at 5:30 pm
