BRIDGEPORT, Conn.- Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led the Setters with 18 points and 14 rebounds in Pace's season-opening win over the University of Bridgeport 71-62. The Setters open up 1-0, while the Purple Knights fall to 0-1.
Bridgeport built an early 18-13 but the Setters rallied with to tie the score at 20. Pace took control of the game with a 15-1 run to pull ahead 35-21 late in the first half. Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) (Pawling, NY/Pawling) paced the Setter run with three trifectas in the run to give Pace the advantage. The Setters would take a 35-26 at the break.
The Setters pulled ahead by as much as 11 early in the second half before Bridgeport sliced the score to three points at 52-49 with 9:09 left in the game. Pace would pull away down the stretch to post a season opening win.
For Pace, Hackett finished with 13 points on 4-for-5 shooting from long range, while Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored 12 points.
The Setters return home for their home opener at the Goldstein Fitness Center when Pace will host Northeast-10 Conference foe Le Moyne College on Wednesday, November 16 at 5:30 pm.
