PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor, CT/Windsor) scored 20 points as the Setters defeated the Skyhawks of Stonehill College 59-48 in Northeast-10 action. Pace improves to 13-2 overall and 7-2 in the NE-10, while the Skyhawks fall to 9-5 and 4-5 in conference play.
The Setters came out firing early as a pair of Huggins' triples led Pace to a 7-1 lead in the opening minutes of the game. The half would be a story of runs as a Stonehill 13-3 run put the Skyhawks up 14-10 with 10:51 left in the half. Pace would answer with a 14-4 run as the Setters took back the lead at 24-18 at the 5:11 mark of the opening period. Huggins' connected on a pair of trifectas, while Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) converted a three-point play. The Skyhawks closed the gap over the final five minutes to trail 26-24 at the break.
The Setters would break the game open in the second half as Pace used a 20-7 run over the first nine minutes of play to pull ahead 46-31. Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led the run with six points, while Huggins and Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) each hit a three in the run and netted five points each in the rally. Pace would pull ahead by as much as 20 points at 57-37 and held off a late flurry of Skyhawks' points to post their 13th victory of the season.
Huggins led the way with her 20 points, along with three rebounds. Shields tallied 11 points, six boards and two blocks, while Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) dished out a team-best five assists.
The Setters return to action on Tuesday, January 11 when Pace will travel to Manchester, NH for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Saint Anselm College at 5:30 pm.
