Pleasantville, NY- The Pace University men's basketball team lost tonight to UMass-Lowell by a score of 78-70 in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown. The Setters fall to 10-9 overall, and 6-8 in conference play while the River Hawks improve to 12-6 overall, and 8-6 in the NE-10.
The Setters came out firing taking the first four points of the game. However UMass-Lowell would then go on a six point run taking the lead at 6-4. For much of the first half both teams would trade baskets with the River Hawks keeping a five point lead. With five minutes to go in the first period UMass would turn up the intensity leading by a 10 point margin, 29-19. The Setters would continue to battle back but unfortunately would finish the first half still down by nine, 38-27.
The beginning of the second period would favor Pace greatly. With the help of clutch three-point shooting from David Eismeier (Burke, VA/Bishop O'Connell) (Burke, VA/Bishop O'Connell) the Setters would narrow the River Hawk lead to just three points, 44-41. The tempo of the game would mirror this theme. Both schools continued to push the pace and hit big jump shots from inside and outside the arc. With 12 minutes remaining in regulation Pace would take the lead at 53-52. Unfortunately, they would relinquish that lead in the next coming minutes and never regain it. The River Hawks would finish the game up by eight, 78-70.
Shinning for the Setters was Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) (Hackensack, NJ/Iona College) with 18 points and 12 total rebounds. Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John'sCollege) would post 12 points, four assists, and eight rebounds. David Eismeier (Burke, VA/Bishop O'Connell) recorded 16 points and seven total rebounds.
The Setters return to action Saturday, January 29 when they matchup against Bentley University in an NE-10 Conference matchup at 3:30 pm in Lowell, MA.
