HUGGINS NETS GAME-HIGH 24 POINTS IN THE VICTORY
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor, CT/Windsor) led the Setters with 24 points as Pace cruised to a 75-53 victory over the River Hawks of UMass Lowell in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters improve to 16-4 overall and 10-4 in the N-10, while the River Hawks falls to 6-12 and 5-9 in conference play.
The Setters would break the open early in the first half as they used a 31-10 run to take a 20-point advantage at 38-18 with 4:16 left in the opening half. Pace would get hot from long range as they hit five triples in the run with Huggins converting a pair from downtown, including a three-point play as she totaled 11 of the 31 points. Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy/Manhattan College), Victoria Jones (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) and Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) each hit one from three-point land to key the run for the Setters. The River Hawks would cut into the lead in the final minutes but Pace would still take a double-digit lead into the break at 44-30.
Pace would pull away to start the second half as they used a 19-7 run over the first 10 minutes to take a 63-37 lead with 9:11 left in the game. Huggins netted a pair of trifectas and a three-point play, while Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) chipped in five points for Pace. The Setters would cruise to the finish to post their second consecutive win.
Pace was led by Huggins, who finished with 24 points, while shooting 9-for-14 from the field and 4-for-6 from downtown. Shields chipped in 12 points and five boards, while Welsome tallied eight points and a game-high seven rebounds. Jones also totaled eight points as she shot 2-for-4 from long range.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, January 29 when Pace will travel to Waltham, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Bentley University at 1:30 pm.
