Worcester, MA- The Pace women's basketball team won a conference matchup over the Greyhounds of Assumption College by a score of 66-60. With the win, the Setters improve to 12-1 overall, and 6-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds fall to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
Pace got off to a great start scoring 14 points in the first six minutes of action. The Setters had an eight point lead at that point over the Greyhounds 14-6. Things would continue to prove prosperous for the Setters through the next few minutes as they would add to their lead. With less than 10 minutes to go in the first period Pace led by as much as 12 points over Assumption 22-10. The Setters would continue to pile it on, ending the first period on top by a comfortable lead 42-21.
The second half would resemble much of the first. Both teams traded baskets for much of the period with Pace leading 57-38 at the 10 minute mark. However, Assumption would not quit. With five minutes left in regulation the Greyhounds would pull within 11 points. Pace would get their last scare of the game with 36 seconds left to play when the Greyhounds would pull within just three points of the lead at 63-60. Fortunately for the Setters that would be the Greyhounds final basket of the game finishing 66-60.
Shinning for the Setters was sophomore forward Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) with 25 points and 10 total rebounds. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) also would score 10 points, two rebounds, and three assists. She continues her quest for 1,000 career points as she needs only four more.
The Setters return to action Wednesday, January 5th when they matchup against Conference opponent Franklin Pierce in Rindge, NH at 5:30 pm.
