WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO SO. NEW HAMPSHIRE 60-57

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Setters lost to the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 14-4 overall and 8-4 in the NE-10, while the Penmen improve 8-8 and 6-6 in conference play.

Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led the Setters in the opening back and forth half with 10 points. The Penmen used a late in the half to take a 32-29 lead into the break.

Southern New Hampshire opened the second half with a 12-4 run to take a 44-33 lead with 11:55 left in the game. The Setters would answer with a 14-4 run to close to within one point at 48-47 with just over seven minutes to go in the game. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor, CT/Windsor) connected on a triple to start the run with Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) netting four points to get Pace back in the game.

The Penmen got the next four points to go back up by five but the Setters again chipped the Penmen lead back to one on back-to-back lay-ups by Shields and Johnson. Southern New Hampshire used a 5-0 burst to take a 57-51 lead but Pace would slice the score back to three points with under 10 seconds left. After a pair of missed free throws by the Penmen, a three-pointer by Johnson with two seconds left was off the mark as the time ticked off.

Pace was led by Johnson's 16 points along with three rebounds. Shields recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  

The Setters return to action on Saturday, January 22 when Pace will travel to North Andover, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Merrimack College at 1:00 pm.
