MANCHESTER, N.H.- Jason Washington (Bronx, N.Y./Mamaroneck/Iona College) (Bronx,
NY/Mamaroneck/Iona College) rushed for 100 yards on the
ground and two touchdown as the Setters fell to the Hawks of Saint
Anselm College 45-35 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters
fall to 0-4 and 0-2 in the NE-10, while the Hawks improve to 1-3,
1-1 in conference play.
The teams trades scores late in the opening quarter as Keith
Charles had a nine-yard touchdown run for the Hawks, while
Washington had a 23-yard run but the Setters failed on the extra
point and trailed 7-6. Saint Anselm would answer with three
touchdowns as Marc Wilson scored on the ground and caught a pass,
while Alex White converted an interception for a Hawks'
touchdown for a 26-6 lead.
Pace would answer right before halftime as Jurrell Hawkins (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) capped a 7-play,
84-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to pull the Setters to
26-13 at the break.
The Setters would trade touchdowns in the third quarter as
Hawkins posted his second touchdown of the day on a 34-yard run,
while Joe Romanick (Slidell, La./Northshore) (Slidell, LA/Northshore)
connected with Eric Ortega (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's) on a 71-yard touchdown strike to pull the
Setters to within 12 at 39-27 after three quarters.
The Hawks would open the quarter as Michael Pierce tossed his
third touchdown of the day as he hit Wilson for a 35-yard score.
Washington would score from one-yard out late in the game with
Romanick running in the two-point conversion to pull within 10 but
would come up short.
Romanick finished with 274 yards in the air on 17-for-26 passing
and one touchdown, while Ortega led the Setters receivers with
seven receptions for 144 yards and one score. Hawkins finished with
51 rushing yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Raphael
Polonco (Clifton, NJ/Clifton/Milford Academy) led the
Setter defense with 11 tackles, while David Lopez (Ozone Park, N.Y./Christ the King) (Ozone
Park, NY/Christ the King) and Yves Delpeche
(Brooklyn, NY/Canarsie/HVCC) each recorded nine
tackles.
The Setters are off next weekend but will return to action on
Saturday, October 9 when Pace will travel to Worcester, MA for
Northeast-10 clash against the Greyhounds of Assumption College at
1 pm.
