PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Patrick Lupfer (Mineola, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) (Mineola,
NY/Kellenberg Memorial) totaled eight receptions for 96
yards as the Setters dropped their Northeast-10 Conference opener
to Southern Connecticut 55-12. The Setters fall to 0-3 overall and
0-1 in the NE-10, while the Owls improve to 1-2 and 1-0 in
conference play.
The Owls opened the game, scoring five touchdowns over the first
two quarters as Southern Connecticut quarterback Kevin Lynch tossed
four passing touchdowns, while Rashaad Slowley added a three-yard
run late in the first quarter for a 35-0 lead.
The Setters would get on the board midway through the second
quarter as Joe Romanick (Slidell, La./Northshore) (Slidell, LA/Northshore)
led the Pace offense on a nine-play, 77-yard drive as Romanick hit
Eric Ortega (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's)
for an 18-yard touchdown. Romanick had also hit Lupfer for a key
39-yard pass connection on a 3rd and-8 play to get into
Owl territory.
The Owls would answer on the ensuing possession as Slowley added
his second touchdown of the day for a 42-6 Southern Connecticut
lead at the break.
The Setters would tack on a score at the end of the third
quarter as Romanick hit Desmond Hinds (Stamford, Conn./Stamford/Iona College) (Stamford,
CT/Stamford/Iona College) on a 28-yard touchdown
strike.
For Pace, Romanick tossed for 232 yards on 18-for-34 passing,
while tossing two scores. Ortega posted three catches for 51 yards
and one touchdown. David Lopez (Ozone Park, NY/Christ the
King) led the Setter defense with 10 tackles, including
seven solo.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, September 25 when Pace
will travel to Manchester, NH for Northeast-10 clash against the
Hawks of Saint Anselm College at 1 pm.
