PACE CLINCHES 12th SEED IN NE-10 TOURNAMENT
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Pace senior
Laurence McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) (Linden, NJ/Linden) drained a
team-high 19 points in the Setters 78-68 loss to the Yellow Jackets
of American International College. Pace ends its regular season
with an 11-16 record overall and 9-10 in the Northeast-10 with the
loss, while American International improves to 14-13 overall and
12-10 in the NE-10 with the win.
Despite the loss, the Setters clinched the 12th seed
in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.
The two schools battled to a tie at six with 16:14 remaining in
the opening half. The Yellow Jackets would eventually fight their
way to 13 point lead by the end of the half with the 47-34 going
into halftime.
In the second half, American International would climb out to a
16 point lead with 8:45 remaining and the score 65-49. A 9-0 run by
the Setters would cut that lead to seven with the score 58-65.
Unfortunately, a 7-0 run would bring the Yellow Jackets' lead to 14
with 3:19 remaining. While the Setters attempted to fight back, the
deficit was just great for them to overcome.
Carlos Howard (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High) (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College
High) scored 15 points in the game, while Delroy
Daley (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond HS) ended the game with eight
points, and nine boards.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, February 27 when they
take the road to face the Hawks of Saint Anselm College in a NE-10
game set for a 1:00 p.m. tip off in Manchester, NH for the first
round of the Northeast-10 Tournament.
