WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Setters saw their two-game winning streak snapped by the Chargers of the University of New Haven 64-55 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 6-3 overall and 2-3 in the NE-10, while the Chargers improve to 2-5 and 1-4 in conference play.
The Setters trailed from the start but remained close in a close first half. Pace would pull to within three points at 29-26 on a steal and fast break lay-up by Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) with 2:55 left in the opening period. New Haven would score the final five points of the half to take a 34-26 lead into halftime.
Pace would pull to within four points at 37-33 in the first three minutes of the second half as Mills would score again on the fast break. The Chargers would answer, opening up a 10-point lead at 49-39 midway through the half.
The Setters would rally back as a Justin Alston (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) trifecta with 6:43 remaining in the game pulled Pace to within four points at 49-43. The teams traded baskets as Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) kept the Setters within four points.
The Chargers would answer with pair of three-pointers with Pace connecting on a pair of free throws as New Have built an eight-point lead at 57-49 with 4:35 left in the game. New Haven would hold off the Setters the rest of the way as they hit three free throws in the final minute to win by nine.
For Pace, Mills led the Setters with 19 points and four steals, while Williams recorded his fifth double-double of the year with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Setters return to action on Tuesday, December 7 when they will host NE-10 opponent American International College at 7:30 pm at Pace's Pleasantville campus.
