PACE DROPS HEARTBREAKER TO NYACK 76-75

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Setters dropped a heartbreaker as a shot at the buzzer fell short as Pace lost to Nyack College 76-75 in non-conference action. Pace falls to 6-5 overall, while the Warriors improve to 2-8 on the season.

Both teams shot well in the first half as each side has leads of six points in the first 20 minutes. The Setters would turn a 40-36 deficit with 3:52 left into a 50-44 lead with 26 seconds remaining in the first half. Justin Alston (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) kicked off the run with a trifecta, while adding a pair of free throws. Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) had four points in the paint to lead the Setters on a 14-4 run to close out the half as Pace took a 50-46 lead into the break.

The second half was back and forth as Pace and Nyack each held small leads as the score was tied six times and the half saw seven lead changes. James Oyamo would connect on the go-ahead basket with 17 seconds left in the game to put the Warriors up 76-75. The Setters would miss four free throws in the final 10 seconds, but had one final chance off a Nyack missed free throw. Pace would push the ball up court but a David Eismeier (Burke, VA/Bishop O'Connell) (Burke, VA/Bishop O'Connell) shot as time expired was off the mark as the Setters fell short by one point.

For Pace, Alston led the way for the Setters with 19 points as he shot 3-for-6 from downtown. Williams recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) tallied 15 points and four rebounds.

The Setters return to action on Sunday, January 2 when Pace will travel to Worcester, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference match-up with Assumption College at 3:30 pm.
