Pleasantville, NY- The Pace men's basketball team won a non-conference matchup over the Knights of Queens College in an overtime thriller 73-70. With the win, the Setters improve to 4-1 overall, and 0-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Knights fall to 1-1 overall and 0-0 in the ECC.
The Setters got off to a good start controlling the pace of the game and staying on top throughout most of the first half. Pace would end the first period on top 34-31 with solid overall play from their point guard Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College).
Things would get a little less comfortable for the Setters by the half way point in the second period. With 11 minutes left in the game Queens would go on a 10-0 point run to tie the Setters at 49-49. With one minute to go in regulation the Setters were down 65-63. Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) (Hackensack, NJ/Iona College) would send the game to overtime with two clutch free throws.
In overtime the Setters would control the pace by scoring first taking the lead 67-65. From that point on Pace would not look back. Despite the game being tied up at 67 apiece the Setters would eventually pull away and win 73-70.
Shining for the Setters was Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) with 23 points and four assists, while Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) recorded 18 points and eight rebounds. Primus-Devonish would tally 10 points and seven assists, and Delroy Daley (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) scored seven points and nine rebounds.
The Setters return to action Tuesday, November 23 when they face off against Southern Connecticut State College in an NE-10 Conference showdown at 7:30 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center in Pleasantville, NY.
