Pleasantville, NY- In their first home competition the Pace men's basketball team won a non-conference matchup over the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College 63-58. With the win, the Setters improve to 3-1 overall, and 0-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Spartans fall to 0-2 overall and 0-0 in the CACC.
The Setters got off to a decent start with the score close through the first half. At the half way mark in the first period the score was knotted up at 18 apiece. Things would not get much better for Pace as the Spartans would end the first period on top 30-29. The second half would be much more prosperous for the Setters. Even though the score was close the entire game the Spartans would go up on the Setters by six points with 13 minutes left to play. However, pace would stay resilient and not quit. With one minute remaining Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) (Hackensack, NJ/Iona College) who totaled 12 rebounds, would score the go ahead basket to put Pace up by one 59-58. From that point on Pace would not look back. Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) would deliver the nail in the coffin with two big free throws ending the game at 63-58. Also shining for the Setters was Justin Alston (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) recording 12 points, two assists, and two steals.
The Setters return to action Sunday, November 21 when they face off against Queens College in a non-conference showdown at 2:00 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center in Pleasantville, NY.
