Lowell, MA- In their season opener of the 2010-11 schedule the Pace men's basketball team won a non-conference game over the Golden Falcons of Felician College. With the win, the Setters start off on the right foot improving to 1-0 overall, and 0-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Golden Falcons fall to 0-1 overall and 0-0 in the CACC.
The Setters got off to a moderately slow start when the Golden Falcons went up on Pace 10-6 through the game's first five minutes. Pace would eventually tie Felician around the halfway mark in the first half 14-14. With two minutes to go in the first half Pace would take its first lead of the game 41-39 when Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) scored on a layup assisted from Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College).
Pace would eventually stretch their lead to four at halftime with the score 47-43.
Early in the second half, the Setters would pull away from Felician. Halfway through the second half the Setters were up as much as seven points. As the second half proceeded on Pace would continue to stretch their lead. With only a few minutes left to play Pace was up as much as 15 points, finishing the game 90-75.
The Setters saw solid performances out of veterans and newcomers alike. Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) would score 23 points on 8-13 shooting while transfer student, Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) (Hackensack, NJ/Iona College) racked up 15 points and 10 rebounds. Also shining for Pace was junior Delroy Daley (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) and freshman Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) scoring 10 points apiece. Freshman Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) showed what he can do with nine points and seven assists.
The Setters return to action tomorrow Sunday, November 14 when they continue play in the UMass-Lowell Classic Tournament against Post University at 2 pm in Lowell, MA.
