Pleasantville, NY – The Pace University football team dropped an NE-10 Conference matchup this afternoon to the Chargers of New Haven by a score of 58-19. The loss moves the Setters to 0-7 on the season and 0-5 in the NE-10, while the Chargers improve to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
New Haven would jump out to an early lead in the first quarter leading Pace 13-0. On the ensuing kickoff Jason Washington (Bronx, N.Y./Mamaroneck/Iona College) (Bronx, NY/Mamaroneck) would find the end zone on a 95 yard touchdown return, Ali Mourtada (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) would tack on the extra point. New Haven would score two more times before the end of the first quarter making the score 27-7.
The start of the second quarter would result in a couple of drives ended by punts for Pace. New Haven would soon tack on three more points before scoring another touchdown to make the score 37-7. It wasn't until Jordan Raynor (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton) (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) found Eric Ortega (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's Boys) for a seven yard touchdown pass to make the score 37-13. The Setters would approach the lock room for half time after another New Haven touchdown with the score at 44-13.
At the start of the third quarter Pace and New Haven would trade possessions with no scores. With seven minutes to go in the quarter the Setters utilized a trick play in which Jurrell Hawkins (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) threw a 28 yard touchdown pass to Eric Ortega (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) to make the score 44-19 at the end of the third quarter.
New Haven would score twice more in the fourth quarter to end things for the afternoon. Other notable play was provided by Jordan Raynor (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton) totaling 228 yards passing with one touchdown. Jason Washington (Bronx, N.Y./Mamaroneck/Iona College) rushed for 38 yards and received for 60, scoring one touchdown. Dominique West (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) (Philadelphia, PA/Cardinal Dougherty) would total 78 yards receiving on six receptions, and Eric Ortega (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) totaled 58 receiving yards on five receptions scoring two touchdowns.
Pace football will return to action Saturday November, 6 when they take on Northeast-10 Conference opponent American International at 1:00 pm in Springfield, MA.
