Box Score FOOTBALL FALLS IN SEASON
FINALE TO MERRIMACK
PLEASANTVILLE, NY.- The Pace University football team fell in
their 2009 season finale as the Setters lost to the Warriors of
Merrimack College 46-14 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The
Setters end their season at 1-9 overall and 1-7 in the NE-10, while
the Warriors improve to 7-3 and 6-2 in conference play.
Merrimack got on the board early as quarterback James Suozzo
scored on a 61-yard touchdown run to put the Warriors up 7-0.
Suozzo would also toss a first half touchdown and Anthony Smalls
would rush 92-yards for a score in the opening half as Merrimack
controlled the half, leading at the break 37-0.
The Setters broke through in the second half as Jason
Washington (Bronx, NY/Mamaroneck/Iona College) capped off
a five-play, 46-yard drive, with a two-yard touchdown run on Pace's
first possession of the second half.
Pace would put up their second touchdown of the day late in the
fourth quarter as Ray Gregg (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) (Stony Point, NY/North
Rockland) tossed an 11-yard touchdown pass to
Andrew Kulak (Wolcott, CT/Wolcott) (Wolcott, CT/Wolcott). Gregg would
hit Justin Polanis (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis)
for the two-point conversion.
For Pace, Washington finished with 47 yards on the ground, while
Kyle Curran (Shaftsbury, VT/Worcester Academy) (Shaftsbury, VA/Worcester Academy) led
the Setters with 56 rushing yards. Kulak led all receivers in the
game with five receptions for 48 yards. Gregg finished
6-for-21 passing for 99 yards, while Joe Romanick (Slidell, LA/Northshore) (Slidell,
LA/Slidell) started and completed 6-fof-13 for 41 yards.
Defensively for the Setters, Michael LaMonica (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South)
(Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) led the way with eight
total tackles, while Jonfrey Sanchez (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) (Bogota,
NJ/Bogota) totaled seven tackles, along with one
interception. Andrew Lipski (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place/Iona College) (Miller Place, NY/Miller
Place/Iona College) recorded seven tackles on the day,
while Greg Brain (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley)
tallied six tackles and one interception.
