PACE FALLS TO ADELPHI 79-64 IN HOME OPENER

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- In their home opener of the 2009 season, the Pace men's basketball team dropped a Northeast-10 conference game to the Panthers of Adelphi University. With the loss, the Setters fall to 0-2 overall, and 0-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers start the season off on a good foot making their record 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10.

The Setters got off to a slow start when the Panthers went on a 19-2 run through the game's first seven minutes. Pace would proceed to cut the deficit to nine after freshman Tristan Benjamin (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway HS) (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) drained a free throw making the score 26-17.

Adelphi would eventually stretch their lead once again to 12 at halftime with the score 40-28.

Early in the second half, the Setters would slice Adelphi's lead to nine once again but would soon be bounced back by the Panthers. The lead for Adelphi would go as high as 17 in the second half.

Despite the loss, the Setters saw a solid performance out of Ryan Woods (Staten Island, NY/St. Peters Boys) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's Boys) who scored a team-high 18 points, and also totaled six rebounds. Laurence McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) (Linden, NJ/Linden) trailed just behind Woods with 17 points along with two steals on the night. Benjamin led the Setters in rebounds with seven and scored ten points.

The Setters return to action on Tuesday, November 24 when they go on the road to New Haven, CT for a NE-10 conference match against Southern Connecticut State, for a 7:30 pm start.
