Box Score SETTERS FALL SHORT IN SEASON
OPENING LOSS TO NYACK
NYACK, N.Y. - Carlos Howard (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High) (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga
High) netted a career-high 25 points on 10-for-15 shooting
in the Setters 85-82 season opening loss to Nyack College. The
Setters fall to 0-1 on the season, while the Warriors open up at
1-0.
Pace would build a seven-point lead midway through the first
half at 26-19 before Nyack would battle back to a 40-40 tie at
halftime. Ryan Woods (Staten Island, NY/St. Peters Boys) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's) tallied 14 points in the opening half to lead the
Setters.
The Setters would start off the second half strong, taking an
eight-point lead midway through the final period. Nyack would use a
13-3 run to pull ahead by two at 59-57 but the Setters would rally
back to tie the game at 67 with just under six minutes to play.
The Warriors would pull ahead by eight points with under a
minute to play but a bucket and a three-pointer by Tristan
Benjamin (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) along with a triple
from Woods, pulled Pace to within two points with 8.8 seconds left
in the game. Nyack would hit 1-of-2 from the free throw line,
giving the Setters one last opportunity. A Woods three-pointer as
time expired would be off the mark as Nyack would hold on for a
three-point victory.
For Pace, Howard led all scorers in the game with 25 points
along with seven assists. Woods finished with 24 points and six
rebounds, while Benjamin was solid in his collegiate debut,
tallying 12 points and seven boards.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, November 18 when they
will open their Northeast-10 Conference slate with a home game
against the Panthers of Adelphi University at 7:30 pm at Pace's
Goldstein Fitness Center.
