FOOTBALL FALLS TO STONEHILL 34-14

EASTON, Mass. - The Pace University football team fell 34-14 to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 0-6 on the season and 0-4 in conference play, while the Skyhawks improve to 2-4 and 1-3 in conference play.

The Skyhawks scored 27 unanswered over the first two quarters as Stonehill used a fake punt for a touchdown along with a 38-yard passing touchdown from quarterback Danny Sagan tossed a 38-yard touchdown pass to Eddie Vachon. Sagan also scored on the ground from one-yard out, while the Skyhawk defense returned an interception for a score as Greg Sanzari recorded the interception.

The Setters put together a drive late in the second quarter as Jason Washington (Bronx, NY/Mamaroneck HS/Iona College) (Bronx, NY/ Mamaroneck/Iona College) capped off a four-play, 65-yard drive with a 34-yard touchdown run with 2:08 left in the first half to trail 27-7 at the break.

The Setter defense put the Setter offense in great field possession as senior safety Greg Brain (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) had a 30-yard interception return to the Stonehill two-yard-line late in the third quarter. Two plays later, Joe Romanick (Slidell, LA/Northshore) (Slidell, LA/Slidell) scored from one-yard out to slice the Stonehill lead 27-14 with 2:33 left in the third quarter.

Stonehill responded on their ensuing offensive possession as Sagan tossed his second touchdown of the day to Oscar Alvarez for a 10-yard connection.

For the Setters, Washington totaled 37 yards on ground with one touchdown, while tight end Andrew Kulak (Wolcott, CT/Wolcott) (Wolcott, CT/Wolcott) led the Pace receivers with six receptions for 51 yards. Ray Gregg (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) tossed for 85 yards on 8-for-18 passing, while Romanick finished 8-for-20 for 82 yards.

The Pace defense was led by Brain, who totaled seven tackles, a forced fumble and fumble recovery, and one interception. Andrew Lipski (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place/Iona College) (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place/Iona College) tallied seven tackles, along with two sacks.

Pace returns to action on Saturday, October 17 when the Setters will host Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference action set for 1:00 pm kickoff on Homecoming for Pace University.
