DALEY NETS CAREER-HIGH 20 POINTS IN WIN
New York, NY - The Pace University
men's basketball team pulled out a huge NE-10 win over the visiting
Dolphins of Le Moyne by the score of 80-76. The victory will move
Pace to 4-3 on the season and 3-2 in the NE-10, while the Dolphins
will fall to 2-5 on the year and 2-4 in conference play. The win
marks the first game the Setters have won at the Civic Center
Gymnasium at Pace's Manhattan campus in two years.
Pace came out hard in the first half as they started the game on
a 19-11 run, and eventually built their lead up to 10 at 29-19 with
10:00 left before halftime. The key to the Setters run was the
aggressive play of point guard Laurence McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) (Linden,
NJ/Linden) as he had eight points and three assists in the
run. The Setters continued their solid play for the rest of the
half as the lead would get as big as 14 on the strength of solid
shooting by Pace who finished the half shooting 47 percent.
Delroy Daley (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond H.S.) (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond H.S.) had a great
inside presence in the first half to help guide Pace to a nine
point lead at the half 47-38. Daley had nine of the Setters 18
points in the paint, and he also grabbed five rebounds.
Pace came out of the locker room with a strong focus as their
lead remained at double-digits for most of the second half. With
7:45 remaining in the game, and Pace still holding a 10 point lead,
the Dolphins started to make their run. Le Moyne went on a 12-4 run
in the next five minutes as they cut the lead down to two at 74-72
with 2:11 remaining. With the game on the line freshman
Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, VA/Paul VI) (Woodbridge, VA/ Paul VI) stepped up
and drilled a tough mid-range jumper to put Pace up by five with 35
seconds remaining. From this point on Pace nailed a couple clutch
free-throws down the stretch to help seal the win 80-76.
The Setters were led by a great game from Delroy Daley (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond H.S.) who
finished with a season-high 20 points, three steals, and a
team-high eight rebounds. Pace also got a star performance from
McGhee as he accumulated 17 points, and a game-high nine assists
with only two turnovers.
