the ground with one touchdown, garnering Homecoming MVP honors as
the Setters fell the Hawks of Saint Anselm College 28-14. Both
teams battled rainy and wet conditions for the most of the game as
the rushing attack dominated the game with the Hawks gaining a
school record 448 yards, while the Setters totaled 203. The Setters
end their 2008 season with a final overall record of 4-6 and
finished 3-4 in the Northeast-10. The Hawks improve to 2-8 in their
finale and finished 1-6 in conference play.
The afternoon got off to a promising start as on the second play
from scrimmage, Ford busted through the line and raced 57 yards to
the end zone for an early 7-0 Setter lead. The Hawks answered on
their first possession, marching 56 yards on 13 plays as Luke St.
Marie scored on a seven-yard touchdown. Saint Anselm would fail on
the point after as a bad snap would lead to a failed pass attempt
in the end zone and a 7-6 Pace lead.
After the Setters went three plays and out, the Hawks jumped in
front as QB Marc Wilson, on his way to a record-setting
performance, broke free for a 67-yard touchdown. The Hawks would
again fail on the extra point and lead 12-7 heading into the second
quarter.
The Setters would take their first possession of the second
quarter, going 77 yards on six plays. Justin Polanis (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) (Port
Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) put the Setters back in the lead
with a 25-yard touchdown run to give Pace a 14-12 advantage.
The Hawks would force as turnover as Pace QB Ray Gregg (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland)
(Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) was hit as he threw a
pass and Mark Colantonio would intercept the pass, returning it
into Setter territory. Wilson would lead the Hawks to the go-ahead
score, tossing an eight-yard TD pass to Marcel Bouie. Wilson would
hit Geoff Stevens for the two-pointer to push the lead to 20-14 for
Saint Anselm midway through the third quarter.
Saint Anselm would tack on some insurance points in the final
quarter as Gregg's second interception of the afternoon gave the
Hawks prime real estate deep in Setterville. St. Marie would cap
off the drive with a 19-yard score and would rush in the two-point
conversion to extend the Hawk advantage to 28-14.
Ford's day on the ground was career-setting as he set a personal
high with 191 yards and fell 15 yards short of the Pace school
record for rushing yards in a game. The passing game was limited by
the weather conditions Gregg finished with 46 yards on 5-for-19
passing.

the ground, while tossing for 63 yards in the air. St. Marie was
also over 100 yards rushing on the day, finishing with 144.
