Box Score MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO ST. ROSE IN THE
OPENING ROUND OF THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
WALTHAM, MA- The Pace men's basketball team dropped
their opening game of the NCAA Tournament to St. Rose, 88-71,
eliminating the Setters from post-season play. The Setters end
their season at 20-13, while St. Rose advances to the Northeast
Regional Semifinals.
Saint Rose took control of the game early, knocking
down nine three-balls in the opening period to take a 42-30 lead
into the break.
The Setters (20-13) fought back in the second
half, cutting the Golden Knight lead to seven on a three-pointer by
Randy Wilson (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill) (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill) and a
trifeca from Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye) (Rye,
NY/Rye) to open the final period. St.
Rose rallied to push the lead back to 14 points with just under 10
minutes left in the game. Pace used one more rally, a 13-2 run over
a three and half minute stretch, capped by back-to-back
three-pointer by Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) (Centreville, VA/Paul
VI) and Gibraltar White (Gautier, MS/Gautier) (Gautier,
MS/Gautier) to cut their deficit to three with just over
five minutes left. The Setters could get not closer as St. Rose
closed out the game on a 19-6 to advance to the regional
semifinals.
For Pace, Quincy-Jones led the Setters with 15
points and nine rebounds. Wilson finished with 12 points, while
White provided 13 points off the bench.
For Saint Rose, Steve Dagostino notched a
career0high 36 points, including 8-for-13 from long range. Shanty
Robinson and Clayton Longmire each scored 11 points, with Robinson
grabbing eight rebounds and Longmire tallying six.
