Box Score MEN'S BASKETBALL LOSES TO SAINT
MICHAEL'S, 91-72
COLCHESTER, VT - In their final regular season road
game, the Pace University men's basketball team dropped a
Northeast-10 Conference match-up to the Purple Knights of Saint
Michael's College, 91-72, this afternoon at the Ross Sports Center
in Colchester, VT. The loss snaps Pace's six-game winning streak.
The Setters are now 18-11 overall, 14-7 in the NE-10, while the
Purple Knights improve to 15-11 overall and 12-9 in conference
play.
Saint Michael's took the lead from the get go and never looked
back, starting the game on a 14-4 run. Chris Cayole and James
Sorentine combined for 10 points, scoring five points apiece. The
Purple Knights put the game out of reach, pushing their lead to 25
on three different occasions, before taking a 58-35 advantage into
the break. Sorentine led Saint Michael's first half scoring
surge dropping 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting, including 5-for-9
from three. Brendan Mullins and Cayole added 15 and 10 points
respectively. The Purple Knights shot 47.8% (22-for-46) from the
field, including 12-for-24 from three. Pace was held to 35.3%
(12-for-34) shooting from the field, including 1-for-8 from beyond
the arc. Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) (Centreville, VA/Paul VI)
led the Setters, scoring 11 points in the first frame.
Saint Michael's cruised to a 19-point victory as they maintained
a double-digit lead throughout the second half. Mullins finished
the game leading all scorers with 25 points, shooting 8-for-18 from
the field, including 4-for-8 from downtown, to go along with six
rebounds and a game-high seven assists. Cayole and Brian Monahan
each recorded double-double's, as Cayole chipped in with 22 points
and 12 rebounds, while Monahan added 12 points and a game-high 16
rebounds (seven offensive). Sorentine ended the afternoon with 19
points. The Purple Knights converted on 14 of 35 three-point
attempts for the game.
Pace had three players score in double figures led by Williams'
team-high 20 points on 8-for-20 shooting, including 2-for-9 from
three. Freshman Lawrence McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) (Linden,
NJ/Linden) added 12 points coming off the bench, while
Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye) (Rye, NY/Rye) chipped in with
10 points and a team-high six rebounds. The Setters shot 41.2%
(28-for-68) from the field for the game, converting on just
2-for-17 from downtown.
Saint Michael's held the rebounding edge, 47-43.
The Setters return to action for their final regular season home
game on Tuesday, February 20th, when they host the Yellow Jackets
of American International College in Northeast-10 Men's Basketball
action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Senior Oneil Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior) will
be honored before the game as part of Senior Night.
