STREANY BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD FOR TACKLES IN PACE SEASON FINALE
SETTERS FALL TO ASSUMPTION 10-7 ON RECORD-SETTING DAY

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Joe Streany (Croton, NY/Croton) recorded 12 tackles on the afternoon, giving the senior linebacker 148 for the season, passing the previous single-season mark of 142 set by Brian Pirone in 1994. Pirone was on hand in Pleasantville this afternoon, serving on honorary captain and witnessing the rewriting of the Setter record book. The Setters end their season at 1-10, 1-8 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Greyhounds wrap up 2007 with a 4-7 record and 3-6 in conference play.

After punting on their opening possession, the Setters Lee Robinson (New Milford, CT/New Milford) (New Milford, CT/New Milford) picked up his conference-leading ninth sack of the season, forcing a fumble on the play, recovered by Dan Ward (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon), to give the Pace offense the ball near midfield. The Setters drove down the field, assisted by two off-sides penalties by the Greyhounds. Senior Quarterback Adam Headley (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Stony Brook) capped the drive with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Hass (Montpelier, VT/U-32) (Montpelier, VT/U-32) to put Pace up 7-0 with 5:52 left in the opening quarter.

Assumption responded on the ensuing possession using an 11-play, 54-yard drive capped off by a four-yard run by Herb Woodard on the last play of the first quarter to tie the game at seven. The defenses tightened up as neither offense posted any points in the second or third quarters.

The Greyhounds started their game-winning drive with 3:52 left in the third quarter, using up 6:02 of the clock on 12 plays, covering 60 yards, that ended in a 22-yard field goal by Jon Eisele with 12:50 remaining in the game. The Setter offense only had two more possessions, with the first ending on downs at the Assumption 30-yard-line and the final possession also ending in downs deep in Setter territory with 21 seconds left in the game.

For the Setters, Headley finished the day with 121 yards in the air on 10-for-25 passing, while Ruben Pagan (Bellport, NY/Bellport) (Bellport, NY/Bellport) totaled 36 rushing yards on 17 carries. Andrew Kulak (Wolcott, CT/Wolcott) (Wolcott, CT/Wolcott) led Pace in receiving with three receptions for 43 yards. Defensively, Streany led the way in his final game as a Setter, totaling 12 tackles, and adding to his other single-season record with his sixth fumble recovery of the season. Senior linebacker Ernst Turnier (Stratford, CT/Bunnell) (Stratford, CT/Bunnell) chipped in 10 total tackles, while Greg Brain (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) added eight. Senior Robinson recorded his ninth sack of the season, while also forcing a pair of fumbles.

For Assumption, Woodard posted 152 yards on the ground on 30 carries, while Taylor Humphrey tossed for 82 yards on 8-for-17 passing and an interception by the Setters' John Induisi (Davie, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas HS) (Davie, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas HS). David Canney hauled in four catches for 24 yards, while Jake Beers recorded a pair of receptions for 50 yards.
