RINDGE, NH - The Pace University men's basketball
team defeated Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce College
tonight in Rindge, NH at the Franklin Pierce Fieldhouse. The
Setters even the season series with the Ravens as Franklin Pierce
defeated Pace earlier this season, 87-84, on November
29th in Pleasantville, NY. The Setters improve to 14-10
on the season and 10-6 in the NE-10, while the Ravens fall to 10-11
overall and 8-9 in conference play.
Pace took control of the game midway through the
first half building an 11-point lead at the 10 minute mark on a
three pointer by Maurice Douglas (Waldorf, MD/South Maryland Christian) (Waldorf, MD/South
Maryland Christian). Douglas finished the night with seven
points and five rebounds. The Setters never trailed in the game and
took a seven point advantage into the break, 42-35. Pace was able
to take charge of the game with the help of their shooting as they
shot 53.3% from the field in the half, going 16-for-30.
The Ravens were unable to overcome their first half deficit as
they were held to just 18 second half points by the stingy Setter
defense. Franklin Pierce shot 21.9% (7-for-32) shooting from the
field and were only able to connect on 1-for-13 (7.7%) from beyond
the arc in the second frame. The Setters offense was led by junior
Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) (Centreville, VA/Paul VI), who
scored a team-high 16 points on 6-for-14 shooting from the field,
to go along with four steals, three assists and four rebounds.
Classmate Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye) (Rye, NY/Rye)
contributed with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field.
Quincy-Jones and Oneil Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior) (Kingston,
Jamaica/Excelsior) each recorded team-high seven rebounds
and a pair of blocks. Randy Wilson (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill) (Peekskill,
NY/Peekskill) was the third Setter in double figures
adding 10 points, while Gibraltar White (Gautier, MS/Gautier) (Gautier,
MS/Gautier) chipped in with nine. Freshman
Lawrence McGhee (Linden,
NJ/Linden) dished out a game-high seven assists.
For Franklin Pierce, Timothy Munch led all scorers with a
game-high 17 points shooting 4-for-11 from three. Munch also
recorded a team-high five rebounds. Darryl Minnifield was the only
other Raven in double figures with 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting.
Jack Barrett and Marcus Wellman each dished out team-high
five assists.
Pace held the rebounding edge, 47-31.
The Setters finish the month on January with a 7-2 record. They
return to action on Saturday, February 3rd, when they
travel to Manchester, NH to take on Northeast-10 Conference rival
Saint Anselm College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
