EASTON, MA - The Pace University men's basketball team defeated
the Skyhawks of Stonehill College, 99-72, in a Northeast-10
Conference match-up today at Merkert Gymnasium in Easton, MA. The
Setters improve to 13-10 on the season and 9-6 in the NE-10; while
the Skyhawks fall to 13-8 overall and 8-8 in conference play.
The Setters would only trail the Skyhawks once throughout the
entire game after a pair of free throws from Stonehill's Nick Smith
to begin the game. The Skyhawks were down by one on two occasions,
but were unable to take a lead, as Pace would build their advantage
by as many as nine. Pace took a seven point lead, 42-35, going into
the break, led by Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) (Centreville, VA/Paul
VI) and Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye) (Rye,
NY/Rye), who scored 11 and nine points respectively.
Smith led the Skyhawks with 13 points, while Lance Clark
added 11.
Pace began the second half on an 8-0 run, building their lead to
15. Stonehill would be unable to recover from their deficit, as the
Setters maintained their double-digit lead for the rest of the
game. Pace was able to take control of the game by shooting 60.0%
(24-for-40) from the field in the second half. The Setters shot
55.4% (41-for-74) for the game, while connecting on 9-for-26
(34.6%) from downtown.
Williams led all scorers with a game-high 26 points, shooting
10-for-20 from the field. He also dished out seven assists and
added a game-high six steals. Senior Oneil Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior)
(Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior) dropped 20 points on
9-for-10 shooting from the field, to go along with nine rebounds.
Quincy-Jones recorded a double-double with 13 points and a
game-high 10 rebounds. Freshman Carlos Howard (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High) (Fort
Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High) dished out a
game-high eight assists.
For Stonehill, Clark scored a team-high 22 points on 6-for-11
shooting from beyond the arc. Smith added 17 points and a team-high
nine rebounds, while Colin Scanlon finished the day with 10 points
and eight rebounds. As a team, the Skyhawks shot 41.3% (26-for-63)
from the field and 37.9% (11-for-29) from three.
Pace also won the battle of the glass, outrebounding the
Skyhawks 43-32.
Pace returns to action on Wednesday, January 31st,
when they travel to Rindge, New Hampshire to take on the Ravens of
Franklin Pierce College in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Setters will look to even
the season series as the Ravens defeated the Setters earlier this
season, 87-84, on November 29th in Pleasantville, NY
