Box Score MEN'S BASKETBALL LOSES HEARTBREAKER TO #4
BENTLEY, 65-62
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University men's basketball team
lost to the Falcons of Bentley College in a Northeast-10 Conference
match-up, by the score of 65-62, tonight at the Goldstein Health,
Fitness and Recreation Center on the Pleasantville campus of Pace
University. The Setters fall to 12-10 overall and 8-6 in the NE-10,
while the #4 ranked Falcons remain unbeaten at 19-0 overall and
15-0 in conference play.
Pace began the game scoring the first 10 points of the game.
Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye) (Rye, NY/Rye) and
Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) each
scored five points in the quick 10-0 run. Bentley answered right
back with an 8-0 run, led by five points from Danny Lawson. The
Falcons would later take their first lead of the contest at the
11:22 mark on a three pointer from Lawson. Bentley built their lead
by as many as 11 points with 8:31 remaining in the half, using a
15-0 run. The Setters would cut the deficit to two points, 30-28,
with 3:28 left in the half on a dunk by Quincy-Jones assisted by
Carlos Howard (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High) (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College
High), but the Falcons would take a five-point advantage,
33-28, heading into the break.
The Setters tied the game four times in the second half, but
were never able to take the lead. Pace tied the game for the fourth
time at 55 with 7:11 remaining on a pair of free throws from
Quincy-Jones, but failed to take advantage as the Falcons scored
the next nine points. The Setters were able to show their
resilience once again, cutting the deficit to three points with 44
seconds remaining on a lay-up by Maurice Douglas (Waldorf, MD/South Maryland Christian) (Waldorf,
MD/South Maryland Christian), but were unable to force
overtime on a last second three-point attempt by Howard. Bentley
maintained their advantage with the help of their three point
shooting. The Falcons finished the night connecting on 14-of-32
from beyond the arc (43.8%) and shot 43.3 % (23-for-53) from the
field. The Setters shot about even, going 24-for-59 (40.7%) from
the field and hitting on 9-of-20 (45.0%) from downtown.
For Pace, Quincy-Jones led all Setters with 15 points to go
along with seven rebounds. Williams contributed with 14 points,
shooting 4-for-9 from beyond the arc. Howard added nine points,
while Douglas ended the night with eight.
For Bentley, Lawson led all scorers with a game-high 18 points,
connecting on 6-for-8 from three. Lawson's 18 points were his
second highest career point total. Yusuf Abdul-Ali finished
the night with 12 points and a game-high five assists.
Bentley held the rebounding edge over Pace 41-28.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, January
27th, as they travel to Easton, MA to take on the
Stonehill College Skyhawks in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
