SETTERS LOSE TO BULLDOGS, 31-17

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University football team lost to the Bryant University Bulldogs in a Northeast-10 conference game by a score of 31-17, this afternoon at Pace Field. The Setters drop to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the NE- 10, while the Bulldogs go to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

The Setters jumped out to an early lead as Chris Anzano (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) caught a 62-yard touchdown pass from Daniel Moyer (Highstown, NJ/Notre Dame) (Highstown, NJ/Notre Dame). Moyer had a career day throwing for 242 yards, completing 23 out of 37 passes for one touchdown and one interception. Anzano also had a season high 5 receptions for 136 yards to go along with 3 tackles, playing both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs would answer quickly with a 5-play drive for 58 yards, capped off with a Lorenzo Perry 6-yard touchdown run.  Perry would later give the Bulldogs the lead in the second quarter with an 18-yard run touchdown run.  On the day, Perry carried the ball 33 times rushing for 200 yards. Bobby Heilmann added a 31-yard field goal with a 1:18 left in the first half to add to the Bulldogs lead. The Setters, however, would cut the Bulldog lead to 17-14, as Moyer ran for a 1-yard touchdown run with 33 seconds left to play in the half.

The Setters were able to keep the game close through out much of the second half as Luigi Casale (White Plains, NY/Iona Prep) (White Plains NY/Iona Prep) tied the game with a 29-yard field goal with 9:08 left in the third quarter. The field goal would be the only points scored in the third quarter. The Bulldogs were able to pull ahead for good in the fourth quarter as Kevin Anderson caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Charles Granatell, finishing a 9-play, 80-yard drive following a Casale 28-yard missed field goal attempt. Granatell would add his second touchdown pass of the afternoon on a 37-yard connection to Justin Kix. On the afternoon, Granatell threw for 179 yards connecting on 10 of 14 pass attempts.

For the Setters defense, Joe Steany (Croton, NY/Croton-Harmon) had a game-high 13 total tackles, with eight solo. Dave Longo (Ringwood, NJ/Lakeland Regional) (Ringwood, NJ/Lakeland Regional) added a forced fumble for the Setters defense. For the Bulldogs, Paul Polomksi had a team-high 10 total tackles, with seven assists.  Kevin Menawonu forced a fumble and Bryce Martins returned an interception for 95 yards to end the final Setter drive. Bulldogs defense also had three sacks on the day.

The Setters return to action on Saturday October 7th when they travel to Waltham, Massachusetts to play against Bentley College in a Northeast-10 conference match up. The game is scheduled for 1:00pm.
