PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Senior fullback Scott
Shuryn (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) scored the game's
only touchdown with just under four minutes play in the first half
as Pace held Stonehill scoreless, en route to a 7-0 victory, in a
Northeast-10 Conference match-up at Pace Field on the Pleasantville
campus of Pace University. Pace improves to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in
the NE-10 while Stonehill drops to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in
conference play.
Pace freshman Nathaniel Ford (Queens, NY/Jamaica) (Queens,
NY/Jamaica) opened the game with a 55-yard kickoff return
to the Stonehill 35-yard line. Pace ran six plays before
losing possession. Both teams would trade possessions,
highlighted by two interceptions by Pace's Chris Anzano
(Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo). Bobby Guy (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) (Fair Lawn,
NJ/Fair Lawn) forced a fumble which was recovered by
Dave Longo (Ringwood, NJ/Lakeland Regional) (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) on
Stonehill's 26-yard line. After a pair of five yard runs from
Pace's Chris Castellano (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) (Washingtonville,
NJ/Washingtonville), Shuryn rushed for six yards before
breaking through the Stonehill defense on a 9-yard run for a Pace
touchdown.
Shuryn would finish the day with 15 carries for 49 yards while
Castellano had eight carries for 32 yards. Pace quarterback
Adam Headley (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Stony Brook) was just
2-for-9 for 16 yards while his counterpart, Stonehill's Jon
Kaloyanides (Cranston, RI/Bishop Hendricken), was 21-for-45 for 202
yards and six interceptions.
Defensively, Anzano had three interceptions in the game, tying
the Pace single game record previously held by Brian Holshek
(1999-2003) who had three picks against Assumption on October 4,
2003. Erik Hubbard (Pittsburg, CA/Diablo Valley) (Pittsburg, CA/Diablo
Valley) had this third interception of the year, giving
him one in each game so far this season. Freshman
Greg Brain (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley) had two
interceptions in the game as well. Ermst Turnier
(Stratford, CT/Bunnell) had a team-high six tackles in the
game, including two sacks.
For Stonehill, J.J. Niamkey (Quincy, MA/Quincy) had an
interception while George Whetstone (Westwood, MA/Westwood)
finished with a game-high eight tackles as well as one sack.
Pace returns to action when they travel to Manchester, N.H. on
Saturday, September 23, 2006 to take on the Hawks of Saint Anselm
College in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up set for a 1:00 p.m.
