Box Score BRONXVILLE, NY- The Pace University men's basketball team fell
to Concordia College 109-96 in overtime. The Setters drop to 5-6
overall, while the Clippers improve to 2-4.
The Setters set a blistering pace in the opening period, hitting
on 61.1% of its shots. Concordia was equally as efficient from the
field, hitting on 57.6% of it shots but the Setters held a 58-48
advantage at the break. For the Setters, Randy Wilson (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill)
(Peekskill, NY/Peekskill) led the way, scoring 14 points
on 6-for-7 shooting, while Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) (Centreville,
VA/Paul VI) added 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting and
3-for-5 from long range.
The hot shooting by both team cooled off in the second half as
both defenses stepped up their play. The Clippers shot 35.7% from
the field, while the Setters also struggled converting on 22.2%
from the field. The Setters built their largest lead of the game as
a three-pointer by Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye) (Rye,
NY/Rye) put Pace up 67-50 with 16:26 left in the game. The
Clippers rallied with a 31-14 run to tie the game at 81 with just
under 4:00 to go. The Setters would regain the lead on two-point
baskets by Oneil Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior) (Kingston,
Jamaica/Excelsior) and Wilson, along with Lawrence
McGhee (Linden, NJ/Linden) hitting 1-of-2 from the charity
stripe. The Clippers' William Cherry would tie the game at 86 with
a three-pointer to force an extra period.
In overtime, Concordia opened up with a pair of three-pointers,
by Richard Fields and Cherry, keying a 17-3 run by the Clippers.
Cherry would add another basket from long range, to lead a hot
shooting extra frame for Concordia. The Clippers shot 5-for-6 from
the field and converted 10-of-12 free throws.
For the Setters, Morgan recorded his second consecutive game
with a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Carlos
Howard (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High) also
tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists along with
four steals, while Williams scored a team-high 23 points. Wilson
finished with 17 points and six rebounds, while Quincy-Jones fell
one board short of a double-double with 16 points and nine caroms.
Pace returns to action when they travel to Syracuse, NY to take
on LeMoyne College on Saturday, December 16 in a Northeast-10
Conference match-up set for 7:30 p.m.
