Box Score MEN'S BASKETBALL STINGS AIC, 87-75
SPRINGFIELD, MA - Ryan
Williams (Centreville, Va.) led four Pace
University players in double figures with 23 points as the Setters
posted an 87-75 Northeast-10 men's basketball victory over American
International College at Butova Gymnasium Tuesday night. The
Setters improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in NE-10 play, while the
Yellow Jackets are 1-2 and 0-1 in the league.
Oneil Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior) (Kingston,
Jamaica) had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Pace, which
canned 10 of its 21 three-point attempts. Desmond
Quincy-Jones (Rye, N.Y.) had 17 points,
while Carlos Howard (Fort Washington, MD/Gonzaga College High) (Fort Washington,
Md.) connected on 4-of-7 threes and finished with 12
points and four rebounds.
Jenar Harrison (Queens, N.Y.) and Magen McNeil (Philadelphia,
Pa.) each finished with double-doubles for American International,
with Harrison finishing with 21 points and 10 boards and McNeil
adding 20 points and 11 rebounds. Lucius Millinder
(Belleville, N.J.) totaled 11 points, while Vernon Dupree
(Wilmington, Del.) added 10 markers and six assists. Jeff
Dosado (Montreal, Quebec) handed out seven assists.
Pace never trailed and built a 19-11 lead eight minutes into the
game when Maurice Douglas (Waldorf, MD/South Maryland Christian) (Waldort,
Md.) canned a three. The Yellow Jackets would close
to within 31-28 at the 5:47 mark on a dunk by McNeil, but the
Setters would gradually regain their advantage and took a
nine-point lead, 45-36, into the locker room when Williams hit a
three with 47 seconds before intermission.
The guests would open the second half with a 9-4 spurt and
opened up a 54-40 lead with 15:52 to play on a baskey by
Morgan. The advantage would swell to as many as 19 points
when Quincy-Jones connected on a long jumper just past the
10-minute mark to make it 73-54, but the Yellow Jackets responded
with a 7-0 run capped by a Dosado fast break layup to make it 73-62
with 8:39 left. AIC would get the lead down to 10 three
times, the last with 1:40 left on a tip-in by McNeil that made it
84-74, but the hosts would get no closer.
AIC outrebounded Pace 45-40, including a 22-15 asvantage on the
offensive glass, and committed three fewer turnovers than the
Setters, but the Yellow Jackets were just 3-15 behind the
arc. Pace was 17-24 at the charity stripe while American
International made 14 trips to the line, converting eight.
The Setters return to action on Sunday, November 26th, when they
play host to Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference
match-up scheduled for a 1:30 pm start.
