Box Score MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS MERCY, 81-61
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Three Flyers scored in
double-digits, led by Victor Sidberry's (Bronx, NY) 15 points, but
it wasn't enough as the Mercy College men's basketball team fell to
Pace University in its season opener, 81-61. Desmond
Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY) and Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI)
(Centreville, VA) each scored 15 points for the Setters as
they improved to 2-2.
Keiron Guy (Brooklyn, NY) scored the first basket of the game to
give Mercy an early lead, but Pace went on a 19-6 run, capped off
by a Callum Jones (Manchester, UK/St. Thomas Moore Prep) (Manchester, UK) layup, over the
next 6:13. The Setters stretched the margin to as many as 19 in the
first half at 37-18 with 3:30 to go before halftime, and took a
39-24 advantage into the break
Pace opened the second frame with a 7-1 spurt over the first
3:05, getting four points from Randy Wilson (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill) (Peekskill,
NY), to go ahead by 21. Mercy was able to trim the deficit
to 16 at 62-46, on a layup by Lawrence Young (Queens, NY) at the
7:30 mark, but Pace scored the next 11 points to put the contest
away.
Sidberry went 5-for-11 from the field and 4-of-6 at the free
throw line for the Flyers. Sophomore Michael Marin (Flushing,
NY) and Guy added 10 points apiece, while Devon Mirjah (Bronx, NY)
finished with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Quincy-Jones hit on 6-of-9 from the field and also added nine
rebounds for Pace. Williams was 4-of-11 from the field,
including 3-for-6 beyond the arc. Oneil Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior) (Kingston,
Jamaica) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and
Lawrence McGhee (Linden, NJ)
dished out a game-high 10 assists for the Setters.
The Setters return to action on Tuesday, November
21st when they travel to Springfield, Massachusetts to
take on American International in a Northeast-10 Conference
match-up. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 pm start.
