Box Score SETTERS FALL TO WARRIORS 18-0
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace University football
team lost to Merrimack College 18-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference
match-up at Pace Field on the Pleasantville campus of Pace
University. Merrimack improves to 6-3 overall and 6-2 in the
Northeast-10 Conference while the Setters drop to 3-6 overall and
2-6 in conference play.
The first half featured heavy downpours and high winds that
contributed to several ineffective offensive series for both sides.
Merrimack seized the first half lead midway through the second
quarter a Mike Young broke free down the sideline for a 47-yard
touchdown run. The Warriors tacked on a score right before the half
on a halfback option pass as Young tossed a 27-yard touchdown
strike to Chris Laham that was tipped by a Setters defender. Both
extra point attempts failed and the Warriors took a 12-0 into
halftime.
As the sun broke free in the second half, field conditions did
not improve with the weather and was a factor in a second half
defensive struggle. Merrimack capped the scoring late in the third
quarter as Young was once again involved in the Warriors scoring,
this time on a 2-yard run. Young carried the ball 24 times,
amassing 193 yards to go along with his second quarter touchdown
pass.
The Setter offense had difficulty getting on track all afternoon
as they only achieved three first downs and totaled 38 yards on 54
plays for the game. Freshman quarterback Daniel Moyer (Highstown, NJ/Notre Dame)
(Highstown, NJ/Notre Dame) completed eight of 22 passes
for 25 yards on the day.
Defensively, the Setters were led by Bobby Guy (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) (Fair
Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) who recorded 12 total tackles, forced
a fumble and recovered two. Joe Streany (Croton,
NY/Croton-Harmon) tallied seven total tackles, including
two for losses of four yards, while forcing a fumble. John
Jones (Dover, NH/Bridgton Academy) returned an
interception 40 yards, while also blocking a Warrior punt in the
fourth quarter. Overall the Setters recovered four fumbles, while
recording one interception.
The Setters return to action for their season finale as they
travel to Worcester, MA on Saturday, November 4 to take on
Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption College at 1:00 pm.
