SETTERS FALL TO CW POST, 48-6

PLEASANTVILLE, NY – Senior Darren Cappetta (West Islip, NY) and freshman Anthony Lazarus (S. Ozone Park, NY) each rushed for two touchdowns as the Pioneers of L.I.U. – CW Post defeated the host Pace Unversity Setters, 48-6.  Pace opens the year at 0-1 overall and in Northeast-10 Conference action while CW Post starts out at 1-0 overall and in conference play.

Chris Bone (Inwood, NY) put the Pioneers on the board first with a 19-yard touchdown reception from Post quarterback Rob Blount (Inwood, NY).  Bone would finish the day with seven catches for 109 yard, while Blount totaled 185 yards on 15-of-25 passing.

Cappetta then scored twice to give the Pioneers a 21-0 lead.  Cappetta scored on runs of 1-yard and 3-yards.  Adebayo Adedapo (Brooklyn, NY) scored on a 24-yard run with 41 seconds remaining in the half to give Post a 28-0 lead heading into the half.

Lazarus came out of halftime to score twoice before Pace scored their first touchdown late in the 3rd quarter.  Lazarus scored on runs of 4-yards and 12-yards to cap off a run of 41 unanswered points by the Pioneer offense. 

Mike Timmerman (Saddle Brook, NY) scored Pace's only points of the day on a 3-yard run with less than two minutes to play in the 3rd quarter.  The play capped off a 6-play, 26 yard drive. 

Josh Amaro (Staten Island, NY) scored with 2:28 remaining in the game to give Post a decisive 48-6 lead and the eventual win.

In all, Post edged Pace in firstdowns (27 to 6), rushing yards (41 for 167, to 30 for 35) as well as passing yards (22 for 41 for 279 yards to 8 for 23 for 54 yards) and total yardage (446 to 89).  Defensively, Pace's Dan Sullivan (Levittown, NY) had a game-high 11 tackles (8 solo) while breaking up one pass.  Joe Streany (Croton, NY) had 10 tackles while Jarrett Foster (Nanuet, NY) had seven tackles including 1.5 for a loss and one sack.  For CW Post, Stephon Solomon (Freeport, NY)  and Frank Kelly (East Rockaway, NY) each had two sacks.

Pace returns to action when they travel to Easton, MA to take on the Stonehill Skyhawks on Saturday, September 10th at W.B. Mason Field for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup set for 1:00 p.m.
