PACE TURNOVERS LEAD TO 20-19 LOSS TO BRYANT

SMITHFIELD, RI – In a  Northeast-10 Conference match up which ook place at Bryant University's Bulldog Stadium before an attendance of 4,820 fans, the Setters came up short, losing 20-19.  With the win Bryant improves to 3-1 overall and in Ne-10 play, while Pace drops to 1-3 overall and in the NE-10.

Pace's opening drive started a string of turnovers that hurt the Setters later on in the game. Quarterback Mike Timmerman (Saddle Brook, NY) fumbled on the Pace 45 yard line on the Setters' opening drive, leaving the Bulldogs with excellent field position. Lorenzo Perry (Providence, RI) and quarterback Charles Granatell (Franklin Lakes, NJ) engineered a seven-play, 45-yard drive capped by a Perry 13-yard touchdown run around the right side to put the Bulldogs up 6-0 in the first.

The next Setter possession resulting in another turnover that led to Perry and the Bulldogs once again taking advantage of excellent field position. Perry ran the ball in from 6 yards out, putting the Bulldogs up 13-0. Perry would total 122 yards and two touchdowns on the day.

Pace fought back as Rueben Sullins (New Rochelle, NY) scored on a 10-yard run and Joe Toronto (Fair Lawn, NJ) returned a blocked punt 27 yards to tie the game at 13-13 with 1:09 left in the first quarter.

Pace University exploded in the second half, jumping out to a 19-13 lead over the Bulldogs, following a pair of Luigi Casale (White Plains, NY) field goals midway through the second quarter. Bryant's Jon Zenquis (Northridge, MA) would return a 59-yard kickoff to the Pace 26 yard line, and Granatell would plunge in from a yard out to put the Bulldogs on top for good, 20-19.

Granatell finished the day 20-of-32 for 194 yards while also throwing three interceptions. Perry had 57 yards receiving for the Bulldogs in addition to his running duties.

For Pace, quarterback Timmerman finished the day 7-for-19 for 83 yards.

Pace University returns to action on Saturday, October 1, 2005 when they host Bentley College in a Northeast-10 Conference game set for 1:00 p.m. at Pace field on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University.
