Box Score SETTERS DEAL AIC FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS,
79-71
PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The Pace University men's
basketball team used a 25-point halftime lead to help them to a
79-71 win over American International College in a Northeast-10
Conference game in Pleasantville, NY. Pace improves to 4-2
overall and 3-2 in the Northeast-10 while AIC drops to 4-2 overall
and 3-1 in conference play.
Head coach Jim Harter called the first half, “…the
best we've played all season.” The Setters hit on 55.6%
(20-36) from the floor, including 6-of-9 from long range to give
them a 51-27 lead at halftime. Pace lead by as much as 30
points in the first half, using runs of 13-0 and 11-0 en route to a
41-11 lead with just under five minutes to play in the half.
The Setters' spread the points around in the first half as
Neal Wellington (Wheaton, MD/Good Counsel) (Wheaton, MD) had 12 points, six
assists and three steals, Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA/Paul VI) (Centreville,
VA) had eight points, Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY/Rye) (Rye,
NY) had eight points and Maurice Douglas (Waldorf, MD/South Maryland Christian) (Waldorf,
MD) had nine points.
Pace held on to their lead for most of the 2nd half
until a 14-2 run by the Yellow Jackets cut the lead to 71-63 with
just over three minutes to play, keyed by a pair of John
Huggins' (Philadelphia, PA) 3-pointers. Pace would hold
on, eventually winning by eight, 79-71, despite being outscored
44-28 over the final half.
Wellington finished with 15 points and seven assists while
Quincy-Jones had 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting as well as seven
rebounds and four blocks. Williams came away with 15 points
and six rebounds while Douglas tallied 13 points and seven boards.
For AIC, Higgins had 23 points and eight rebounds, hitting on
4-of-11 from the outside. Dexter Gregory (Paterson, NJ) had
13 points, 14 rebounds (10 offensive) and two blocks. Magen
McNeil (Philadelphia, PA) had 10 opints in the game while Lucius
Millinder (Belleville, NJ) had nine rebounds off the bench.
Pace returns to action on Saturday, December 10th
when they travel to Colchester,VT to take on the Purple Knights of
St. Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference game
scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
