MERRIMACK OFFENSIVE DRIVE TOPS PACE, 45-14

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Pace University football team lost to Merrimack College this afternoon,   45-14, in a Northeast – 10 Conference match up. The loss drops Pace to 2-6 overall and 2-6 in the conference, while Merrimack improves to 4-4 overall and 3-4 in the NE -10.

The Setters jumped ahead first as Merrimack fumbled the opening kickoff and Pace recovered the ball on the Warriors 11 yard line. Reuben Sullins (New Rochelle, NY) ran the ball in from the six yard line putting Pace up 7-0. However, it didn't take Merrimack long to get on the board with a field goal from 36-yards out by Ryan Kelley, ending the first quarter 7-3.

Merrimack scored would put another seven points on the board by a two yard run by J.D. Wild. Both teams went scoreless until the there was less than four minutes left and Warrior quarterback Colin Temple threw a 17 yard pass to Elfren Quiles, putting them up 17-7. The Setters then answered back scoring their final points of the game as quarterback Mike Timmerman (Saddle Brook, NJ) scored on a 26-yard run, his 7th of the year. The Setters would cut the lead to three, 17-14, but on the ensuing kickoff Andrew Jackson returned the kick 81 yards, to give Merrimack a 24-14 lead.  

The only score in the third quarter came from a four yard run from Warrior fullback Wild, giving him his second touchdown of the afternoon.

David Leach, Merrimack's running back, scored their final two touchdowns in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, the first he ran in from 19 yards out. The second was a 22 yard pass from Temple, putting the Warriors on top 45-14. Temple ended the afternoon passing for 285 yards, 28-for-45 and two passing touchdowns.

Offensively, Sullins led the Setters in rushing with 55 yards and scored one touchdown. Defensively for the Setters, Joe Streany (Croton, NY) had a career high 18 tackles and one interception. Dan Sullivan (Levittown, NY) ended with 10 tackles, including 2.5 for loss as well as one interception and one pass break-up.
