Men's Lacrosse Rallies Before Falling to #7 Merrimack in Overtime

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- William Scioscia (Somerset, NJ/Imaculata) netted eight points to lead the Setters on a second half comeback but fell in overtime to #7 Merrimack 11-10 in Northeast-10 Conference action.

The Setters fall to 2-7 overall and 1-7 in the NE-10, while the Warriors improve to 8-3 and 7-1 in conference play.

Merrimack raced out to a 5-2 halftime lead and extended to 8-2 early in the third quarter.  Matthew Cossidente (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) and Matt Gebhardt (West Islip, NY/West Islip) accounted for the first half Pace goals.

The Setters rallied with six unanswered goals to pull even at eight. Scioscia, Gebhardt and Adam Mirkin (Mt. Kisco, NY/Ossining) each netted a goal and Scioscia added three assists as the Setters pulled even at 8-8 with 13:02 left in regulation. Merrimack answered 90 seconds later to retake a one goal advantage.

Scioscia brought the Setters back with a pair of goals 1:14 apart at 11:23 and 10:09 to give Pace their first lead of the game at 10-9. The Warriors pulled even with 8:53 left to even the score at 10-10. Both teams had shots to break the tie in the final minute but all fell short and the game headed to overtime. The Warriors broke the tie with 1:08 left in the first overtime to take the win.

For Pace, Scioscia's four goals and four assists led the way for the Setters, while Gebhardt tallied three goals and two assists. In net, Timothy Izzo (Trumbull, CT/St. Joseph/Franklin Pierce) played the whole game between the pipes, recording 15 saves.

The Setters wrap up their home schedule on Wednesday, April 16 as they host Assumption College at 3:30 pm.
