Matthew Aiello-Lammens Updated Staff Headshot

Matthew Aiello-Lammens

Matthew E. Aiello-Lammens has been an Associate Professor in the Environmental Studies and Science Department at Pace University since . From 2007 to 2015, he trained as an ecologist through postdoctoral work in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Connecticut with John Silander and others, and as a Ph.D. student under H. Resit Akcakaya in the Department of Ecology and Evolution at Stony Brook University.

His research spans multiple sub-disciplines of ecology—including population biology, community ecology, and quantitative ecology—and covers a wide range of taxa. He has published studies on birds, herpetofauna, invertebrates, and plants, with a particular interest in the flora of northeastern North American forests. A consistent theme in his research is the use of novel quantitative methods to address both fundamental and applied ecological questions.

In addition to his research, he is deeply committed to teaching ecology and quantitative methods to learners at all levels. With several years of experience teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, he developed his instructional approach through close collaboration with seasoned educators during graduate school and through volunteer teaching with the Software Carpentry Foundation. He is continually seeking new strategies to enhance his teaching, with the goal of making ecological and environmental science concepts accessible and engaging for all students.
