Matt Girard joined Pace football as an assistant coach prior to the 2023 season.
Girard comes to the Setters after spending two season as the quarterbacks coach at Plymouth State University. While at Plymouth State, he helped develop a first-year starter into the MASCAC 2022 Rookie of the Year. He also lead and organize drills for quarterbacks, helping them develop consistent mechanics, execution and situational awareness. He collaborated with the coaching staff to develop an effective offensive game plan. Girard also recruited prospective student-athletes as part of his coaching duties.
Girard started his coaching career as a student-assistant coach at Western New England University in September of 2020. During his time with the Golden Bears, he organized and ran running back drills and led position rooms film study meetings.
In April of 2021 he joined the Massachusetts Pirates of the Indoor Football League coaching intern, where he was an offensive and defensive assistant while also participating in offensive film production.
Prior to his coaching career, Girard was a defensive back at Western New England, where he won a CCC Championship in the 2019 season.
Girard received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Sport Management from WNE in 2021, then earned his Master's Degree in Sport Leadership and Coaching in 2022.
