Water Safety Instructor Job Description
Swimming Instruction:
- Instruct pre-assigned class according to American Red Cross Guidelines and swim level.
- Have prepared lesson plan for each class.
- Test students on first day to determine if they are in appropriate level.
- Utilize skill sheets to record skills as they are completed.
- Complete all Water Safety Instructor paperwork by predetermined date so cards can be distributed on final day of session.
- Be attentive, motivating and create a positive and safe learning environment for all your students.
- Swimming aides should be utilized to increase practice time for students.
- A safety lesson must be included in every lesson.
- Each child should be challenged to his or her ability without compromising safety.
- Motor skills are best learned though performing the skill, therefore, following American Red Cross guidelines, 80% of lesson should be practice.
- Be to work fifteen minutes prior to class start to set pool lane lines, put in tot docks, assemble equipment and greet students.
Other Responsibilities:
- Enforce all pool rules and know the emergency action plan.
- Be attentive to pool deck at all times when students are present.
- Instructors are expected to make every effort to attend all their classes. If this becomes impossible due to illness or emergency, find suitable coverage for your shift.
- Return pool to regular configuration at the end of shift. All equipment should be put away.
- Appropriate attire is required. One-piece swim suits only.
- Project a positive and friendly attitude to all participants and their parents, however, do not delay the start of class because of parental interruption.
- See that all children leave with their guardians.
- Attend all instructor meetings and training sessions.
Experience:
Water Safety Instructor Certification or previous swim instructor experience
Salary: $15.00/hour
