Volleyball’s Five-Set Fight Falls Short Against Adelphi

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University Volleyball went point-for-point with Adelphi University deep into a decisive fifth set Tuesday night, but the Setters were edged 18-16 to close out a hard-fought 3-2 loss at home. Pace moved to 5-7 overall as conference play sits just around the corner.

The Setters grabbed the early advantage with a 25-23 opening-set victory before Adelphi answered with wins of 25-17 and 25-21 to move within a set of taking the match.

With its back against the wall, Pace delivered its best offensive set of the night in the fourth. The Setters hammered 17 kills with just one error on 37 attempts, hitting .432 to force a fifth set with a 25-21 victory.

Neither side could create separation in the deciding frame. The fifth featured 10 ties and three lead changes as Pace and Adelphi battled beyond the 15-point mark. The Panthers ultimately secured the final two points to escape with an 18-16 win.

Maggie Hamed paced the Setters with 11 kills while hitting .333 and adding 17 digs. Keelah Chambliss reached double figures with 10 kills, while Paola Ortiz finished with eight kills and 13 digs.
