PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Tuesday night, Pace University Volleyball turned the service line into a difference-maker, firing a season-high 20 aces in a four-set victory over Queens College at Goldstein Fitness Center. The Setters earned the 25-10, 25-20, 26-28, 25-13 decision to improve to an even 5-5 on the season.
Pace wasted little time taking command. The Setters held Queens to three kills and a negative hitting percentage in the opening set while putting down 12 kills of their own to cruise to a 25-10 win. The momentum continued into the second as Pace moved within a set of the victory with a 25-20 decision.
Queens refused to go quietly in the third. A back-and-forth frame featured 13 ties and three lead changes, with the Knights eventually escaping with a 28-26 win to extend the match.
The response from Pace was emphatic. The Setters hit a match-best .241 in the fourth, recording 13 kills while holding Queens to a negative hitting percentage. Pace pulled away for a 25-13 victory to close out the night on their home court.
Paola Ortiz powered the attack with 14 kills, 13 digs and four service aces. Kendall Quinones added 10 kills on just 20 swings, hitting a team-best .400.
Aralyn Saulys delivered a standout all-around performance with a career-best eight service aces, 20 assists and 10 digs. Sara Griesbauer added five aces, while Maggie Hamed contributed seven kills, 14 digs and two aces. Alice Bender guided the back row with a match-high 25 digs.
Pace finished the night with 47 kills, 43 assists and 76 digs, while its season-high 20 aces highlighted one of the Setters' strongest serving performances of the year.
The Setters remain home Saturday, Sept. 26, when they welcome RV American International College to Goldstein Fitness Center at 1:00 p.m. for a non-conference match-up.
