PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Ava Jordan scored twice, and Meredith Klosek added another as Pace University Women's Soccer continued its strong September run with a 3-1 victory over RV Mercy University Wednesday night at Northwell Stadium. The Setters improved to 5-1 while earning their third consecutive victory.
Siena McCree helped keep the match scoreless through Mercy's early pressure, making three saves over the opening 16 minutes. The Setters began generating chances of their own as the half progressed and broke through in the 29th minute. Kaelyn Reinhard set up Klosek, who finished at 28:08 to put Pace ahead 1-0.
Pace doubled the advantage just before halftime. Jordan found the back of the net at 42:48, sending the Setters into the break with a 2-0 cushion after they produced six shots and four corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.
The Blue and Gold protected the two-goal advantage for much of the second half as McCree and the Pace back line kept Mercy from finding a breakthrough. Mercy eventually cut the deficit to 2-1 with five minutes remaining, setting up a tense finish.
With just under two minutes left, Bailey Olson helped create the response, finding Jordan for her second goal of the night at 88:07 to restore Pace's two-goal advantage and seal the 3-1 victory.
Jordan finished with two goals on three shots, while Klosek recorded a goal on four attempts. Reinhard and Olson each supplied an assist, and Alyssa Blanchette put two of her three shots on target.
McCree went the full 90 minutes in goal, finishing with five saves. Pace and Mercy each registered 11 shots, while the Setters held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Setters return to action Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host Southern Connecticut State University in their Northeast 10 Conference opener at 3:00 p.m.
